Fostering Certification Process

  • You must be at least 21 years of age
  • Foster homes are single and dual parent homes
  • Ensure your residence meets the Health and Safety requirements that are mandated by the state and agency.
  • Everyone 18 and over living in the home must pass a background clearance/child abuse index check or must have criminal exception from Community Care Licensing (CCL).
  • Attend an orientation session and the primary care giver must complete between 8 to 20 hours of pre-certification Foster Pride training.
  • Complete a certified First Aid and CPR training.
  • Complete and provide all paperwork necessary for certification purposes.
    • Necessary Documents: CA Drivers License, SSN, DMV Printout, Vehicle Insurance
  • Caregivers must be interviewed by Golden State staff.
  • All adults living in the home must complete an application, autobiography questionnaire, provide verification of income and financial statement, and participate in a home study evaluation.
  • The family agrees to work in a partnership with Golden State and their staff and open their home up to Golden State Family Services and CCL.
  • All final decisions regarding certification are made by the Executive Director and Program Director.
